CFE SUPPORT MEASURES

CPA Atlantic School of Business is committed to providing you with the best possible support to succeed with the CPA Common Final Examination (CFE). To help you prepare for the CFE, we are pleased to offer a number of additional support measures as noted below.

All Writers

The Introduction to Capstone 2 and the CFE module is a self-study module that all registered CFE writers have access to in D2L. There is no facilitator support, required submissions, grades, nor deadlines in this module. This module contains the following resources:

  • A technical review that includes:
    • diagnostic assessments that evaluate your proficiency on technical topics
    • a personalized syllabus focused on technical topics where you require additional study
    • tailored adaptive reviews that reinforce your learning and provide you with an opportunity for additional practice
  • A sample CFE study calendar
  • The eBooks and practice MCQs
  • Practice cases with supporting materials (debrief notes, walk-throughs, and feedback guides)
  • DAIS activities
  • An unmonitored discussion board where candidates can discuss study plans and form study groups

Each of these 30-60 minute recorded webinars offers a significant topic that relates to the CFE. Although candidates are strongly encouraged to view all four webinars, you may choose to watch any or all that are most applicable to your specific needs.

  • Webinar 1 – Understanding the CFE and how it is marked
  • Webinar 2 – Case Writing and the Road to Competent
  • Webinar 3 – Time Management and Common Issues
  • Webinar 4 – Stress Management

Links to the webinars will be provided to candidates after registering for the CFE.

In the coming months prior to each CFE, a live 1.5 hour webinar will be hosted jointly by CPA Atlantic School of Business, CPA Western School of Business and CPA Ontario and will feature a panel of previous CFE writers (dates and registration details will be updated as they become available). The CFE Panel Discussion is an opportunity for candidates to listen to advice from previous CFE writers and have the opportunity to ask questions. Staff and panellists will not be able to answer any technical questions or questions pertaining to specific topics that may be tested on the CFE, but rather will answer questions about the overall exam experience. Live attendance is required as there will not be a recording.

These two documents produced by the Government of Quebec may be of benefit to any francophones writers who work primarily in English but are writing the CFE in French, or any francophone writers who will be writing the CFE in English:

Additional Support for Rewriters

This mentorship program pairs repeat CFE writers (and any first-time writer who requests one) with mentors who will provide you with an additional level of support to help you be successful on your next attempt.  As a recent successful CFE writer, mentors possess a great abundance of knowledge and experience to share with candidates. Each candidate will be allotted 6 hours of mentorship.

Your time with your mentor could cover such topics as, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up a study plan
  • Study tips
  • Outlining support
  • Assistance with understanding a feedback guide or specific assessment opportunity

This newly revamped program will require an initial virtual meeting to discuss your specific needs and set up a formal study plan as well as a dedication to weekly virtual check-ins with your mentor.

Please note:  The role of a mentor is to provide guidance and support – mentors do NOT review and mark your assignments nor provide tutoring services. If you wish to have consistent marking, please consider taking advantage of re-taking Capstone 2.

Approximately 6-8 weeks prior to the CFE, you will be paired with your mentor and will receive an introductory email from them to get acquainted and assist with your study needs.  To request a mentor, please email learnersupport@cpaatlantic.ca.

Repeat writers are eligible to re-take Capstone 2 at the reduced rate of $860 plus HST (from $1415). CPA Atlantic School strongly believes that a second pass of Capstone 2 offers rewriters the best advantage for successfully passing the CFE – and noting you will have the benefit of accessing the National Marking Team’s feedback on submitted cases.

If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please register for Capstone 2 through the self-serve portal and contact registrations@cpaatlantic.ca to have your invoice updated.

The Capstone 2 Review Module is a self-study module that is a replication of what is provided to first-time CFE writers taking the live Capstone 2 module in PEP.  This module contains complex and integrative practice cases representing what to expect on Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 of the CFE.  The module is not moderated by a facilitator and assignments are not marked.

PEP candidates who are rewriting the CFE who decided not to retake the discounted Capstone 2 will get free access to this module once it is available.  ICAI and ICAP CFE first-time challenge writers who were exempt from PEP can purchase it for $250 + HST by emailing learnersupport@cpaatlantic.ca

Those candidates who are rewriting Day 1 of the CFE and/or candidates who did not take the case in Capstone 1 are strongly encouraged to attend the mini-workshop for the Day 1 CFE Case in which you will be attempting on the CFE. A mini workshop will be offered live approximately 4-6 weeks prior to each CFE for the new Day 1 case and a recording will be available for the previously offered case. There will be case preparation required prior to attending and the case preparation instructions will be provided to you prior to the session.
