How CPA Knowledge Essentials Work

CPA Knowledge Essentials is designed to provide a flexible, personalized learning experience that helps learners build confidence, demonstrate readiness for the KA, and succeed in the CPA Professional Program. The CPA Knowledge Essentials includes learning content across:

Personalized Learning Pathways

Each unit begins with an embedded diagnostic that helps identify your existing knowledge and areas for development. Rather than requiring all learners to complete the same learning activities, CPA Knowledge Essentials helps direct you to the content, practice, and resources most relevant to your individual needs.

Adaptive Learning

The CPA Knowledge Essentials is delivered through an adaptive learning platform that supports a modern, learner-centred experience. Features include:

• Personalized learning recommendations through dynamic study modules
• Progress tracking and readiness indicators
• Digital note-taking and study tools
• Translation support features for learners studying in a second language
• Additional practice opportunities and learning supports through an AI tutor

Flexible Enrollment and Progression

The CPA Knowledge Essentials offers open enrollment, allowing learners to begin when they are ready and progress at a pace that aligns with their background, schedule, and selected Knowledge Assessment sitting.

Learners receive access to all program modules throughout their subscription period and may move through the content according to their own learning needs.

Demonstrate Your Readiness

Each unit concludes with knowledge checks designed to assess readiness against the Knowledge Assessment learning outcomes. These assessments provide learners with ongoing feedback and help build confidence before attempting the KA.

Integrated Exam Preparation

CPA Knowledge Essentials includes a dedicated exam preparation module designed specifically for the Knowledge Assessment. This module includes access to multiple practice exams, supported by exam-writing strategies and study tips.

Together, these features create a learning experience that is flexible enough to meet learners where they are, while ensuring they develop the foundational knowledge and confidence needed to take the next step toward becoming a CPA.

Getting Started

CPA Knowledge Essentials is open to individuals residing in Atlantic Canada and Bermuda who are preparing for the CPA Knowledge Assessment and entry into the CPA Professional Program.  

Learners who meet the admission requirements for the CPA Professional Program (or have been determined to be conditionally admissible) may use CPA Knowledge Essentials as a pathway to develop the prerequisite knowledge assessed through the Knowledge Assessment.

While CPA Knowledge Essentials does not have specific admission requirements, learners should be aware that they need to meet the CPP admission requirements (including degree, credit hour, and GPA requirements) to register for the Knowledge Assessment and CPP. 

CPA Knowledge Essentials is also available to learners who wish to strengthen their business and accounting knowledge, even if they do not currently meet the admission requirements for the Knowledge Assessment and CPA Professional Program. Participation in the CPA Knowledge Essentials alone does not confer eligibility for admission to the CPA Professional Program
